Use of mandibular advancement devices for the treatment of primary snoring with or without obstructive sleep apnea (OSA): A systematic review

The aim of this review was to systematically evaluate the available scientific evidence on benefit mandibular advancement devices (MADs) in treatment primary snoring (PS). From 905 initially identified articles, 18 were selected. Papers that provided indirect information regarding obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and/or breathing disorders (SBD) included. Information obtained monoblock and duoblock appliances from selected studies. most commonly able achieve 50%–70% maximum protrusion. frequently used outcome measurements apnea-hypopnea index, Epworth sleepiness scale, oxygen desaturation which all yielded positive post-treatment results. common side effects temporomandibular joint pain excessive salivation, improved with time. Our findings indicated use MADs, even varying designs, outcomes reported patient populations (PS, OSAS, SBD). Despite lack studies PS, supports MADs for PS. Snoring should be treated a preventive psychosocial perspective avoid progression more severe diseases could have significant medical economic impact.
